Somebody Is Watching

For nearly 10 years in my initial meeting with buyers I warn them, "DO NOT DISCUSS TERMS OF YOUR OFFER INSIDE THE HOUSE YOU ARE TOURING." In a day and age of "Big Brother" watching everywhere it seems people would become more aware of the possibility that cameras are nearby capturing every move or recording every conversation. When I watch some reality shows I wonder how people can behave certain ways knowing the world is watching? The truth is, many of them become distracted (usually by drama) and forget the cameras exist. The same is true for many buyers who walk into a home that fits their dream criteria. They become caught up in emotions. Elation takes over to verbally throwing all their cards on the table. My buyers learn quickly by a simple, "SHHH!" from me to "ZIP IT!". Once we are out of the house and back in the car, we can go over details of their offer. You may wonder why I am so adamant or even think I am paranoid... It took only one call from a seller who had his first scheduled showing appointment. He called me from his job and said, "The buyers loved the house! I had our webcams on and heard their whole conversation.". He went into details of what they planned to offer. Now he knew the wife would do anything have it. Next time you tour a home, keep DISCRETION in mind.
